Botanical name: Helichrysum angustifolium
Extraction method: Steam distilled from flowering tops.
Description: A shrub growing to half metre in height, occurring naturally in Mediterranean countries the brightly coloured daisy like flowers retain their colour and shape when dried, hence the name ‘everlasting’ or ‘immortelle’.
Actions: Alterative, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antitussive, antiseptic, cholegog, cicatrisant, diuretic, expectorant, hepatid, mucolytic.
Common uses: Everlastings has excellent anti-inflammatory properties when used on the skin. It may be helpful for acne, allergies, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, sunburn and wound healing. It is reported to be beneficial in treating sinus infections, bronchitis and coughs. It has detoxifying properties stimulating the gall bladder and liver and reputedly aids lymphatic drainage. It is used in lotions, compresses, perfumes, cosmetics, aftershave, baths and massage oil.
Cautions: Non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitising.
